Bear with me - this was not a small project by any means (the number keeps rising, but we're at 24 sound sets to cover all versions - I'll explain that at the appropriate time, it's not quite as nuts as it sounds -) )Īs of today, the Complete Classical Collection isn't on my list, I am however currently working with Mr. The Complete Classical Collection is by Peter Siedlaczek EastWest, through, is also a distributor, so they sell products by other developers that do use Kontakt format.Īs far as sound sets - the original (no longer available) EWQLSO sound sets are trying to get over a few final humps and will be available soon for all versions/expansions. EastWest and Quantum Leap's productions are no longer legitimately available in their original Kontakt format. The library you have linked is not the NI version of Symphonic Orchestra. I haven't run it through anything to intensive but it does seem to be much more stable.

Now, the most recent PLAY update is a breath of fresh air in the little time I've spent with it. with or without the convo though, PLAY does use more system resources than Kontakt. It can be slimmed down, most notably by disabling the convolution reverb which is very resource intensive and will choke systems quickly if underpowered.

PLAY eats computers (resources, that is) :-) Posted by Jonathan Loving - 02 Feb 03:01PM

The symphonic orchestra comes in many different flavors (silver, gold, platinum, plus with 16 bit samples) - you may want to shop around and look around on the EW forums to see what suits your taste, budget and your computer resources. You can't buy an NI powered library from someone else (pre owned) - license is non transferable - beware of any offers on eBay. There are soundsets for the Play version, and soundsets for the NI powered library are in advanced beta testing status (though that won't help you since these libraries are not sold anymore). Play is a bit more powerful in that it allows mixing of all three mike settings (in the platinum edition) in one instance, it it a bit more CPU intensive than the kompakt instrument. The Complete Classical edition you are referring to is a different library, it's not the SO that Eastwest itself recorded.īoth the Play and the NI powered versions work fine with Sibelius. The Play symphonic choirs are currently in beta testing (or will be very soon) and the NI powered version are no longer sold. 5.2.5: Which EWQL version to get?Įastwest only sells the Play powered version of their symphonic orchestra - their license agreement with Native Instruments has expired.

Macbook Pro 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo, 3 Gig RAM So should hold on to my money until this sound set is available somewhere, and hope that EWQL keeps selling the Complete Classical Collection, or should I buy it now before they stop selling it and trust that some kind and smart person is going to make a sound set available for it? In sum, given that I have an old-ish laptop and could really use better choir sounds then what comes with Sibelius or GPO (which has no choir), what I want is the EWQL Complete Classical Collection 2nd Edition with a sound set that is currently not available. Plus it comes with an extensive choir sample set, although not as slick as the word-builder products now available at considerably greater cost.

Some say that NI versions of EWQL are not available anymore, but I see that the Complete Classical Collection 2nd Edition (an NI edition) is currently available on the EWQL website for $250, almost half the price of EWQL Gold. But these are relatively expensive and you need a powerful machine.

The Play versions work straight out of the box, if you install the sound set that Jon Loving has provided to the Sib community. (I have a 2-year old Mac laptop, as described in my by-line.)

The NI versions of EWQL only work with a manual sound set, but are way less resource intensive. But I read contradictory advice on these pages. I am sorely tempted by the lovely sounds that EWQL offers, way better to my ear than GPO, and at a far more reasonable price than VSL.
